Gar Alperovitz is a political economist and historian. He is the author of of What Then Must We Do: Ten Ways to Democratize the Economy, The Next American Revolution, and American Beyond Capitalism. He is co-founder of the Democracy Collaborative and is a former fellow of Kings College, Cambridge University. He has taught at Harvard’s Institute of Politics and is professor emeritus at the University of Maryland.
Ellen Brown is an internationally-acclaimed Public Banking expert and author. She has been a speaker at two previous Praxis Peace Institute conferences and it was at the 2009 conference in Sonoma — over lunch at the Sunflower Cafe — that the Public Banking Institute was created by Ellen Brown and Marc Armstrong. She explores the history of banking and finance in a way that has captivated her readers and put the pieces of money, finance, and debt together in a unique and comprehensive manner, one that plumbs the depths of our modern economic systems and offers examples of better models.
